A recent archaeological excavation in the Kiryat Gat neighborhood has uncovered a significant site from the Roman and Byzantine periods. The discovery includes a monastery with a colorful mosaic floor, featuring a Greek inscription that includes a passage from Deuteronomy 20:6. The site dates back to the 5th or 6th century and was built on a location previously used during the Roman period. The excavation has also uncovered a winepress, at least 10 buildings, and various imported items. The mosaic floor, which features crosses, lions, doves, and geometric patterns, will be relocated to an open area in the city for public display.
