A 37-year-old Israeli man, Mahmoud Hussein Mahmoud Bushkar, was indicted on Thursday in the Haifa District Court for allegedly planning to carry out a terrorist attack. According to the investigation, Bushkar, a resident of Kabul, planned to wear an explosive belt and perpetrate a suicide bombing. He was arrested by the Border Police’s undercover unit and found with a gun, ammunition, and materials to make explosives. Investigators discovered that Bushkar had read online tutorials on making explosives, conducted experiments, and attempted to recruit others to assist him. He was motivated by the Arab-Jewish violence in May 2021 and the current war with Hamas. By the end of 2023, he had begun producing sophisticated incendiary devices. A joint Police-Shin Bet statement said that the authorities will continue to take measures to thwart threats and enforce the law severely against those involved.
