Gaza’s Health Ministry reported that over 46,000 Palestinians have been killed in the 15-month conflict with Israel, with 109,378 wounded. The ministry said women and children make up more than half the fatalities, but did not provide information on the number of fighters or civilians killed. The Israeli military claims to have killed over 17,000 militants, but provides no evidence. The war began when Hamas-led militants stormed into southern Israel, killing 1,200 people and abducting 250. Lebanon’s parliament has elected the country’s army commander, Joseph Aoun, as head of state, filling a two-year presidential vacuum.
