An amendment to Israel’s Aviation Services Law has passed its first reading in the Knesset, reducing the compensation requirements for airlines in case of flight cancellations or delays. The amendment is seen as a condition for foreign airlines to resume flights to Israel, following the country’s war with Gaza in October 2023. Since the war, 64 foreign airlines have suspended flights to Israel, leaving only 26. Despite supporting the amendment, airlines such as Ryanair and Air France have not announced any changes to their plans. The only airline to resume flights since the ceasefire in November is Air Seychelles. The amendment still needs to pass its second and third readings to become law, but industry sources expect it to be approved without difficulty.
